Behind the Book: The Story I Carried

Updated: Jul 31

I didn’t plan on writing a book. I was just trying to survive grief. My brother died, and everything in me cracked open.

At first, I didn’t have words. Just weight. There were days I couldn’t sleep. Nights I couldn’t breathe. I felt like I was disappearing in plain sight—smiling for people, breaking inside.

Writing started as release. One night, I grabbed my phone and wrote what I couldn’t say out loud. It wasn’t for a book. It wasn’t even for healing. It was just… all I had.

My wife kept encouraging me to write. But the more I wrote, the more I realized I’d been carrying these stories for years. Childhood. Silence. Guilt. Anger. Fear. Things I thought I’d moved past but never really named.

No Sunshine is that naming.

It’s not pretty. It’s not polished. But it’s honest. And if you’ve ever had to survive something that no one saw, if you’ve ever buried parts of yourself just to be okay—

Then maybe this book will help you feel a little less alone.

If it speaks to you, I hope you’ll keep reading. And if it doesn’t… thank you for listening anyway.
